Watch: Items Management walkthrough
Create items, bulk import from CSV or a menu photo, and manage your library.
How items work
Items are business-wide — you create them once and link them to any menu. The price you set is shown in the menu's currency, which itself comes from the outlet the menu is assigned to.
The Items page at Dashboard → Items shows every item in your library, regardless of menu. You can create individually, import in bulk, edit inline, or delete selected rows.
Create an item
- 1Open Dashboard → Items.
- 2Click + New Item in the top-right. A drawer slides in.
- 3Fill in the fields and click Save.

Optional
AI image generation is plan-gated
The Generate with AI button is available on the Business plan. On Starter and Pro, the button is disabled with an upgrade prompt. See Pricing.
Bulk import items
Have an existing menu you need to bring in? Use Import Items on the Items page. Two input modes are supported:
File upload
Upload a .csv, .xlsx, or .xls file with rows for each item.
Menu photo (OCR)
Upload a photo of your existing printed menu. Digital Dineway extracts items, prices, and categories automatically.
Recognised columns
name, description, price, discounted_price, sku, category, food_type, is_best_seller, is_low_stock, image_urlOnly name and price are required per row. The rest are optional.
Two-step flow
- 1
Upload
Drop your file or menu image. Digital Dineway parses it and shows a preview table.
- 2
Preview & validate
Edit any row inline. Rows with a missing name or invalid price are flagged and blocked from import.
- 3
Import
Click Import N items. Valid rows are created. Invalid rows stay in the preview so you can fix them.
Edit an item
- 1Go to Dashboard → Items.
- 2Click the item row or its Edit icon. The drawer opens with the existing values.
- 3Update any field — name, price, photo, tags, category — then Save.
Changes apply everywhere the item is linked — every menu, every outlet — instantly.
Delete items
Delete a single item
Open the item and click the Delete button in the drawer. Confirm in the dialog.
Bulk delete
Check the rows you want to remove. A bar appears at the bottom of the page with a Delete Selected action. Hold Shift to select a contiguous range quickly.
Deletion is permanent
Deleted items are removed from every menu they were linked to. Historical orders that included the item remain intact for reporting. If you just want to pause an item without losing it, use the Active toggle instead.
Tips
- •Items with photos convert more orders. If you don't have food photos yet, the AI generator (Business plan) is a fast starting point.
- •Keep descriptions to one line. Guests scan on a phone — they don't read paragraphs.
- •Use categories consistently: Starters, Mains, Desserts, Beverages. Consistency makes your menus feel organised.
- •Prefer the bulk import for anything over 20 items — it's dramatically faster than the drawer.
