Watch: Live Kitchen walkthrough
Video tutorial coming soon
We're producing a walkthrough for this guide. In the meantime, the written steps below cover everything.
Setting up the kitchen display, running service, and clearing finished orders.
How Live Kitchen works
Open Dashboard → Live Kitchen on any tablet or a dedicated kitchen monitor. Orders that have been accepted in Live Orders appear here as cards, sorted oldest to newest, each with a live timer and a single primary action button.
The display is designed to be touched fast — large item names, clear quantity badges, full-screen mode for monitors without a taskbar.
Setting up the display
- 1Open Dashboard → Live Kitchen on the device you want to run as a KDS. A tablet or a small wall-mounted monitor works well.
- 2Use the Outlet filter at the top to scope the display to a single outlet (recommended when each outlet has its own kitchen).
- 3Click the Fullscreen button to hide browser chrome. The display is now ready for service.
Staff access: give kitchen team members the Kitchen role so they see only Live Kitchen and Live Orders — no revenue numbers or billing. See Account & Access.
Order states on the display
Each order card shows a single primary button matching its current state:
New order animation: freshly-arrived orders get a glowing ring and a subtle scale-in so your team spots them immediately.
Timers and urgency
Every card has a live countdown showing how long the order has been waiting. Colours escalate as time passes:
Fresh
0–8 min
Warning
8–15 min
Urgent
15+ min
Orders at 15 minutes and older get a pulsing red border and an ⚠ URGENTlabel so they're impossible to miss.
Guest notes & quantities
- •Guest notes (like “no onion” or “extra spicy”) are shown in a highlighted yellow box above the action buttons so they're impossible to miss.
- •Quantity badges colour-code orders of two or more — orange for 2, red for 3+ — so the station can plan ahead for large tickets.
- •Item text is large and high-contrast so it reads cleanly from a few feet away.
Live connection & fullscreen
A status indicator at the top-left shows the realtime connection:
The empty state (“All Clear — No orders in the kitchen right now”) is a calm reminder that everything is caught up.
